Managing operational risks in port activities remains a major challenge, particularly in developing countries where performance issues are often linked to weak monitoring prac-tices. This study explores how Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) can support the im-provement of risk management at the Port of Djen Djen in Algeria. Drawing on an inter-pretivist epistemological stance, a qualitative methodology was adopted, combining semi-structured interviews using Nvivo, direct observation, and internal document analysis, and the FMECA method to systematically identify and prioritize operational risks. The findings reveal that the integration of KPIs into operational processes significantly enhances risk identification, early detection of problems, and operational performance monitoring, while strengthening decision-making at the managerial level. This study concludes that KPIs constitute a strategic lever for operational risk optimization in port logistics, and recom-mends the formalization of a KPI-based performance monitoring framework tailored to the specificities of Algerian port infrastructure.
